Wells Fargo:

Use your iPhone 6 to make an Apple Pay purchase with your Wells Fargo Credit Card by November 30, 2014, and you\’ll earn a $20 statement credit.

Rite Aid:

If customers attempt to pay for a transaction with Apple Pay, a message will prompt both customer and cashier for a different form of payment. Please instruct cashiers to apologize to the customer and explain that we do not currently accept Apple Pay, but will have our own mobile wallet next year.

Update 29.10. WAL-MART bei BusinessInsider:

Ultimately, what matters is that consumers have a payment option that is widely accepted, secure, and developed with their best interests in mind. […] MCX’s members believe merchants are in the best position to provide a mobile solution because of their deep insights into their customers’ shopping and buying experiences.

Aha. Ich denke, die Händler fokussieren erstmal auf ihre eigenen $$$…

Tim Cook bei WSJ:

[…] more than one million credit cards were activated on the company’s new Apple Pay service within 72 hours of its debut last week.

[…] the number of activations makes Apple Pay the largest mobile-payment offering.

Update 31.10. MCX:

Within the last 36 hours, we learned that unauthorized third parties obtained the e-mail addresses of some of our CurrentC pilot program participants and individuals who had expressed interest in the app.

Ein Zufall?

MCX COO Scott Rankin sagt bei Re/code:

In the future I think there will be multiple platforms available not just at MCX merchants but everywhere.

Und wie viele davon werden mit QR-Code arbeiten? Eher keine.

Update 4.11. Dekkers Davidson, CEO des MCX Konsortiums sagt Re/code:

MCX insisted on exclusivity for now, to provide “breathing room” for the development of CurrentC. When I asked whether that meant the merchants didn’t want another system to catch on, he said no, and repeatedly explained what a massive undertaking CurrentC is. He added that the exclusivity rule would expire in “months, not years.”

Aha: die Tage sind gezählt für CurrentC.

Update 13.05.2015 9to5mac berichtet, dass MCX seinen CEO ersetzt, nachdem wichtige Partner zu ApplePay „übergelaufen“ sind:

MCX, the merchant consortium behind the Apple Pay competitor known as CurrentC, has announced today that CEO Dekkers Davidson is being replaced by Brian Mooney. […]

Recently, several CurrentC retailers have launched support for Apple Pay, […] Tim Cook revealed that Best Buy would gain Apple Pay support in retail stores later this year and in-app immediately. Acme and Home Depot have also both revealed Apple Pay support after being initial CurrentC partners. It was also recently announced that Discover cardholders will have Apple Pay support soon as well.

Game over. Das ging ja schnell.
